OSHA Confirms Public Hearing Date for Proposed Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Rule

What: On April 16, 2025, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued a news release confirming that the public hearing on its proposed Heat Injury and Illness Prevention rule will proceed as scheduled beginning on June 16, 2025.

The deadline to register to speak at the OSHA public hearing is Friday, May 2, 2025.

Why: OSHA’s proposed Heat standard would apply to all employers in general industry, construction, maritime, and agriculture whose employees are exposed to heat hazards in the workplace above certain heat triggers, with some exceptions. The proposed rule is intended to be a programmatic standard that would require employers to create a plan to evaluate and control heat hazards in their workplace.
